Daikin VRV systems for climate control at large facilities

Ensuring a comfortable microclimate in large buildings - business centers, hotels, shopping complexes and luxury residential buildings - requires a fundamentally different approach than air conditioning an apartment. Scalability, centralized management and, above all, energy efficiency are important here. The No. 1 solution in the world for such tasks is the multi-zone VRV (Variable Refrigerant Volume) systems, invented and patented by the company Daikin.

What is VRV and why is it a business standard?

Unlike traditional split systems, where each indoor unit requires its own external unit, or chiller-fan coil systems that use water, the system VRV uses freon and inverter technology to precisely regulate the volume of refrigerant. This allows you to connect up to 64 indoor units to one outdoor unit (or combination of them), while maintaining individual temperature control in each room.

Key benefits for large facilities

1. Energy efficiency and heat recovery

One of the main problems of large buildings is uneven heat load. The sunny side of the building may require cooling while the shady side still needs heating. VRV units with heat recovery (REYA-A, REYQ-U series) solve this problem elegantly: they transfer excess heat from cooled rooms to those that require heating. This increases the energy efficiency of the system by 15-20% and allows it to operate in simultaneous cooling and heating mode.

2. Flexibility of design and installation

Daikin offers impressive performance in terms of track length and height difference, which is critical for high-rise buildings. Outdoor VRV units can be installed on the roof, basement or technical floor without damaging the façade of the building. The modular design allows you to combine up to 3 outdoor units with a total capacity not exceeding 56 HP (156 kW) into one powerful system, or for non-standard capacities there are combination kits (from 5 to 20 HP), achieving the required performance indicators.

3. Wide selection of indoor units

For each type of room in a building, you can choose the ideal solution connected to a single system:

  • Ideal for open-space offices and hallways cassette indoor units (including round flow models) ensuring uniform air distribution.
  • For hotel rooms and executive offices, where hidden installation and silence are important, they are used channel blocks.
  • For small technical rooms or budget offices, classic wall blocks.
  • Effective in areas with high ceilings or without suspended ceilings ceiling blocks.

Building Retrofit Solutions

Owners of old buildings are often faced with the problem of replacing outdated air conditioning systems that run on old freon (R-22). Complete replacement of pipelines requires major repairs and shutdown of the building. Daikin has developed a special series - VRV units for retrofitting (VRV Q). They allow you to use existing copper routes, automatically flushing them and adapting to the old pressure, which significantly saves budget and time.

Heating and hot water supply

Modern VRV systems are about more than just cold. VRV units with heat pump effectively heat the building even at sub-zero temperatures outside the window. Moreover, the system can be integrated with modules for hot water production. Using indoor DHW units и storage tanks, it is possible to provide hot water to a building using heat removed from air-conditioned spaces.

Intelligent Control

A large-scale system requires control. Daikin VRV easily integrates into building management systems (BMS). This allows the dispatcher to monitor the status of each unit, set up operating schedules, limit temperature ranges to save energy, and quickly receive signals about the need for service.

Conclusion

Choosing a Daikin VRV system is an investment in technology, reliability and low operating costs. This solution allows you to solve all climate issues (cooling, heating, ventilation and hot water supply) within one engineering ecosystem.
